From inverter workhorse to integrated energy platform
Sungrow is one of those brands that has earned its position through sustained delivery rather than marketing. The company entered Australia in 2013, and over the past decade it has grown from a residential inverter option to a supplier with utility-scale battery projects in the ground across the National Electricity Market.
BloombergNEF has recognised Sungrow as the world's most bankable PV inverter and energy storage company, which in practical terms means investors and lenders view it as a lower-risk technology partner. That assessment carries weight on commercial and larger residential projects where financing is involved.
What was announced in March 2026
In late March 2026, Sungrow held its PV and ESS Summit in Sydney, drawing more than 300 partners and industry specialists. The event marked the Australian launch of two major products: the PowerTitan 3.0 utility-scale storage system, and a Hybrid Solution aimed at the commercial and industrial tier.
The PowerTitan 3.0 is a utility-scale product. Each 20-foot container houses 1.78 MW of power conversion capacity and 7.14 MWh of battery, with blocks configurable to 7.2 MW and 28.5 MWh in a four-hour configuration. The system uses silicon carbide power conversion and a stacked battery cell architecture, and Sungrow says the AC block design allows a 1 GWh project to be deployed in just 12 days.
The more immediately relevant product for commercial installers is the Hybrid Solution, using Sungrow's 1+X modular inverter series with DC and AC coupling options. Sungrow says the DC-coupled approach improves system-level energy conversion by three to five per cent compared with traditional designs, which is meaningful at commercial and industrial scale.
The residential picture
Sungrow's residential inverter range has been well established in Australia for years. The SH series hybrid inverters, SBR and SBH battery series, and iSolarCloud monitoring platform are familiar to most installers who work across the mid-market. The SBR series suits smaller and mid-sized systems, while the SBH series is built for high-voltage applications in larger homes and three-phase properties.
PowerHarbor: Sungrow's first all-in-one residential system
Sungrow unveiled the PowerHarbor in late June 2026, described by the company as its first true all-in-one battery inverter product for the residential segment. The system offers inverter power ratings from 10 to 30 kW across six models, and modular LFP battery blocks of 6, 9 or 10 kWh, expandable up to 120 kWh.
The architecture is a genuine departure from earlier Sungrow battery systems. Each battery module has its own optimiser and operates independently rather than in series, which means new and older modules can be combined years apart with the system automatically balancing their operation. The battery can also selectively switch off individual modules when full capacity is not needed, improving efficiency and extending system lifespan. Energy storage uses 314 Ah ultra-capacity LFP prismatic cells, rated for up to 10,000 cycles at 90 per cent depth of discharge.
PowerHarbor pairs with a new backup device called Energy Bridge, a compact circuit-breaker format unit that replaces the traditional main household breaker and removes the need for CT clamps during installation. The system supports 1.6 times PV-to-battery fast charging and up to 150 per cent three-phase unbalanced output on lower-capacity models, useful for homes running EV chargers or heat pumps unevenly across phases.
PowerHarbor was announced through Sungrow's global channel rather than with an Australia-specific release, so local availability, pricing and rebate compatibility are not yet confirmed.
Grid stability and what it means for installers
Grid-forming capability is becoming a more significant factor in project approvals as coal exits the system and inverter-based resources take a larger share of generation. Sungrow's technical team has been active in positioning the company's products around voltage support, frequency support, oscillation damping, and black start capability. For most residential and small commercial installers this is background context, but anyone moving into larger commercial or C&I work should understand it, as grid connection approvals are becoming more demanding.
Australian project pipeline
Sungrow has a growing pipeline of large-scale storage projects in Australia. The Cunderdin DC-coupled project and the Templers BESS are in operation, the Pelican Point BESS is under construction, and the Halys BESS, with planned capacity exceeding 3 GWh, is in development, according to Sungrow Asia Pacific Vice President Joe Zhou.
These projects matter to installers and their customers for a straightforward reason: they demonstrate that the products specified in residential and commercial settings are backed by a manufacturer with genuine depth in the Australian market.
